...is this: Keyser Soze was a sled. A sled with a penis. A sled with a penis who was already dead. A sled with a penis who was already dead and is not really living in the 1800's and there are no creatures in the woods.
MSNBC has a story today on Spamalot, the new musical based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail. So yes, Virginia, there is such a beast as a "geek musical" and Broadway, here it comes. But I have been wracking my brain trying to determine if this is the first geek musical-- my criteria for "musical" here being a big-budget, Broadway spectacle. I know that there's incarnations of Star Wars and Star Trek musicals out there that were done on a community or regional level, but has there ever been a musical on Broadway that really fit the criteria of having geek cred? Only two come to mind immediately-- and having seen neither, I have to admit this is just based on knowledge of the source material rather than the actual shows themselves:
Now, it could be (and probably will be) argued that regardless of source material or content, musicals inherently have no geek cred. To which I say: musical theater geeks are still geeks, my friend. Don't hate within the community-- some of us have multiple afflictions. We're all outcasts together.
