There was a dance song in the early 1990's that consisted mostly of an announcer's voice saying "James Brown is dead.", followed by hard thumping beats and techno dance music, and the occasional repetition of the phrase "James Brown is dead". Naturally this song has been going through my head for the past 24 hours or so. I just cleared it out by listening to James sing "The Old Landmark" on the Blues Brothers soundtrack, which is a performance so strong that it should make any atheist momentarily reconsider his or her position on God, if only for two minutes and fifty-nine seconds.
Didn't James Brown seem indestructable? And yet, now he's gone.
If James Brown is dead that means that Keith Richards' days are numbered.
